About the Presenter:
Dr. Elena Albč is a consultant ophthalmologist at the Humanitas Hospital, Milan, Italy.
Prior to his current position, she was a Research Fellow of the Cornea and Refractive Surgery Department at Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary and Schepens Eye Research Institute, Harvard University, Boston in 2004, and a Cataract Clinical Fellow and attending Surgeon of the Aravind Eye Hospital, at Madurai, Tamil Nadu, India in 2006.
She attended bio-statistical and methodological courses in order to actively participate to the organization of clinical protocols and the analysis of study results.
Her main research interests are the effects of Cross Linking procedure on corneal stability, hysteresis and resistance in progressive corneal diseases and post refractive corneal ectasia by means of new devices testing cornea biomechanics (Ocular Response Analyzer). In addition she is focusing on corneal geometrical analysis by means of corneal topography, tomography and corneal aberrations changes occurring after Cross Linking and she is checking the safety of the procedure by means of Optical Coherence Tomography.
She was winner of the Best Paper Award at the AAO Annual Meeting in Chicago in 2010 with a paper showing the results of Cross Linking in a paediatric population with documented progressive keratoconus.
Dr. Albč is a dedicated researcher and is keen on technical innovation, accurate from the clinical and methodological point of view approaching the problems with constructive criticism, in order to improve the overall performance of each procedure in the interest of the patients.
