About the Presenter:
Mr. Charles Claoué is the Senior Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at Queen’s Hospital, Barking Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals National Health Service Trust in London, and in independent private practice. He specialises in advanced cataract surgery, intraocular lens design, corneal transplantation, corneal (Femto-LASIK) and lens refractive surgery (including PRELEX) and medico-legal aspects of ophthalmology. He is the only ophthalmologist in the United Kingdom who is a Clinical Lead for Organ Donation (NHS Clinical Champion). Mr. Claoué trained at the University of Cambridge, St.Thomas’ Hospital and Moorfields Eye Hospital, and holds academic links to the Universities of London, Pretoria, and Ulster. He is currently Secretary of the United Kingdom and Ireland Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, and Chairman of the UKISCRS EUREQUO committee. He was formerly secretary of the British Society for Refractive Surgery. He is Liveryman Guardant of the Society of Apothecaries Guild and Freeman of The City of London. He has published over 80 peer-reviewed articles as well as book chapters and edited an early text-book on refractive surgery. Amongst his many achievements, he was the first surgeon to describe PRELEX (PREsbyopic Lens EXchange) and is developing an intraocular lens to help patients with end-stage ARMD. He has published over 80 articles, chapters and books. Outside of medicine, his interests include classic cars, history and farming.
