About the Presenter:
Dr. James P. Gills received his medical degree from Duke University Medical Center in 1959. He served his residency at Wilmer Ophthalmological Institute of Johns Hopkins University and has been on the Advisory Board for both institutions. Dr. Gills founded St. Luke's Cataract and Laser Institute in Tarpon Springs, Florida more than 40 years ago and in that time has been firmly committed to embracing new technology and perfecting the latest cataract surgery techniques. Dr. Gills has received innumerable medical and educational awards. In 2007, he was elected to the Johns Hopkins Society of Scholars and was also selected to receive the Distinguished Medical Alumnus Award, the highest honor bestowed by Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. In 1996, he was awarded the prestigious Innovators Award by his colleagues in the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons. Dr. Gills’ philanthropic work in over 70 ministries and organizations led to him being awarded the Duke University 2005 Humanitarian Award and the 2002 William Carey Award for Extraordinary Leadership and Service in World Missions. Dr. Gills has published more than 195 medical articles and authored or co-authored 10 books on ophthalmology. He has also written 20 books on Christian living, with over 8 million in print. With the exception of the Bible, Dr. Gills' books are the most widely requested books in the U.S. prison system.
